An Introduction to Beekeeping is a hands-on experience allowing you to discover the wondrous world of keeping bees. It is ideal for those who want to know more about honey bees and their care.
Participants will be guided by an experienced Isle of Wight beekeeper.
- Cost: £70.00
- Times: Events take place on Saturdays or Mondays from May to early August.
- Duration: This event lasts for approximately 3 hours.
- Location: The Cherry Orchard, Godshill, PO38 3JA
- Age Restriction: Minimum age for participation 16yrs.
After an introductory talk, you will:
- Be provided with a beekeeping suit to wear and explore a working hive.
- Be guided through the hive to see how bees work and produce honey.
- Be introduced to the workers, drones, and the elusive queen.
After a quick photo opportunity, you will then be taken to enjoy refreshments and given a chance to taste various honeys from around the Island.
Course Requirements:
- A bee suit and gloves will be provided.
- You MUST wear your beekeeping suit at all times and follow instructions.
- You will need to bring your own Wellington boots or similar sturdy over-ankle footwear.
An Introduction to Beekeeping experience is not suitable if you are known to have an anaphylactic reaction to bee stings.
